Metabolomics
Metabolomics is a high-throughput metabolomics approach that profiles small-molecule metabolites to reveal phytochemical fingerprints, biomarker pathways, and disease-associated molecular responses. It is used across diabetes intervention in phyllanthus niruri, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, drought-stress biology, pulmonary arterial hypertension, bull fertility, and cardiovascular risk prediction, and it is also being integrated with microbiome, proteomics, and AI frameworks. In Phyllanthus species, the approach was described as unlocking therapeutic avenues for diabetes, while in clinical and translational settings it has been applied to dried-blood-spots, low-microliter plasma workflows, and multidimensional profiling of trial samples. Recent literature highlights its role in improving diagnostic accuracy, capturing biomarker stability, and translating metabolomic signatures into predictive tools, including untargeted profiling and multi-omics integration. Specific advances include compatibility with orthogonal extraction from low-volume plasma, and use of ternary solvent mixtures such as methanol, acetonitrile, and acetone to preserve metabolomic readouts. Overall, metabolomics functions as a central omics layer for mechanistic discovery and biomarker development in precision medicine, agriculture, and toxicology.
